According to my dictionary, extrospection is the “examination or observation of what is outside oneself —opposed to introspection”. Like a lot of artists, I’m pretty introverted. But to make art we also have to observe a lot. As I painted this beautiful creature, it occurred to me how very alert and observant birds are. It’s hard to spend any amount of time looking into that lovely golden eye and not feel watched in return.
